PADI Referral Courses

Referral Courses can be done if you have completed only part of your dive training. Once you arrive in Australia, you can then finish your dive training. This is a great option if you don't want to spend two days of your holiday doing pool and classroom training!

When you have completed the Academic training and Confined Water training portions of the PADI OPEN WATER DIVER COURSE, you will require:

  • PADI Referral form (less than 12 months old) or:
  • Log book stating you have completed your confined water dives
  • Medical Certificate stating you are fit to dive (See below for more information on medicals)

There are a few different options for completing this course.

2 Day Trips - With this option you will go the Outer Great Barrier Reef each day and return to Cairns each afternoon. Includes two training dives each day, accommodation transfers, BBQ lunch and all equipment.

1 Day Trip – to complete the last 2 open water dives of the course. This is a 1 day trip/ 2 dives only- Includes two training dives, accommodation transfers, BBQ lunch and all equipment.

NON-PADI Referral Courses

If you have completed the academic and confined water training with a certifying agency other than PADI, we are generally able to convert your training and issue you with a PADI Open Water Diver Certification. Further training will be required however, at least one-day PADI Scuba Review Program with a private instructor.

NOTE REGARDING MEDICAL CERTIFICATE:

According to the recommendation of the Australian Code of Practice for Recreational Diving and Snorkelling, all divers are to undergo a medical examination according to Australian Standard AS4005.1, conducted by a doctor with training in hyperbaric medicine.

Medical statements must be less than 90 days old

Generally, most students pass the Medical Examination without any difficulty. There are however some CONTRA-INDICATIONS for scuba diving.

If you have ever suffered from any of the following conditions, you are UNLIKELY to pass the medical examination here:

  • PNEUMOTHORAX
  • EPILEPSY
  • HEART SURGERY
  • DIABETES REQUIRING INSULIN
  • ASTHMA
  • OR IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY PREGNANT

This medical examination MUST be conducted along the guidelines of Australian Standard AS4005.1. Thank you for your email. We offer Referral Courses for those who have completed only part of the Open Water Certification. Once you arrive in Australia, you can then finish your dive training with us.

NOTE REGARDING MEDICAL CERTIFICATE:

You will be required to complete our Dive Medical Declaration prior to you completing your Referral Course. This will ensure that you don’t have any existing medial concerns or taking any medication that may affect or stop you from diving. You may be required to complete a dive medical prior to beginning your course. The dive medical must be completed by a dive doctor under the AS4005.1 code. This means it will need to be completed in Australia and be less than 90 days old. If you do require a dive medical, I would suggest visiting the 24 Hour Medical Centre when you arrive in Cairns. The Australian Dive Medical assesses the fitness and suitability of prospective scuba divers and ensures that the medical standards for diver fitness meet the standards of Australian Standards AS 4005.1.
